Dozier Right Place at Right Time
(Marysville, CA) 4/25/2016…Jeremy Burt seemed destined to win his second consecutive winged 360 sprint car main event win on Saturday night, yet, it wasn’t meant to be. On lap 23, Burt tried to use the top groove in turns three and four to pass a slower car. As Burt made his move, the slower car drifted up the track and the two made contact sending Burt out of the racing groove. Courtney Dozier was in the second spot and capitalized on this new opportunity. Dozier dove to the bottom and passed both Burt and the slower car. Dozier came out of turn four to see the white flag being displayed. He went on to lead the final lap with ease. “It’s one of those things were being lucky was better than being good tonight,” said Dozier. “But I was in the right spot at the right time and got the win.”
Burt rebounded to finish in the second spot. Even though he didn’t get the win, it was still a good finish and he will continue on as the point leader. Raquel Hall drove a solid race. For the majority of the feature event she held down the second spot. About the half way point she surrendered second to Dozier. Hall stayed strong and finished in the third spot. Mike Monahan enjoyed an overall solid night of racing to finish fourth. Brad Bumgarner started eighth and worked his way up to a fifth place finish.
Cody Lamar turned the fastest lap in qualifying at a 12.314. Heat race winners included William Fielding and Bumgarner. A total of 16 sprint car attended the third point event of the 2016 season.
Johnny Reeves has quickly adapted to Dwarf Car racing. Reeves was resilient all night in capturing the 20 lap feature win. “I’m still learning how to drive these cars,” said Reeves in victory lane. His boss and car owner, Kevin Bender, finished in the fourth spot but was happy in victory lane with Reeves. Thomas Leiby enjoyed a great night to finish second. Jeff Fitch seems to enjoy Marysville and finished third. Fitch in two starts at Marysville has two top five finishes. Jeremy Blackshere is an important part to Marysville Raceway and when it comes to Dwarf Car racing. Blackshere moved up quite a bit in tonight’s main event and finished fifth. Ryan Winter won the first heat race while brother in law Shawn Jones won heat two. During the main event both Winter and Jones suffered mechanical damage and neither of these top two competitors finished the race. Kevin Bender won the third eight lap heat race.
Lovelock, NV hired gun racing driver Jeff Macedo dominated the winged economy main event. His closest competitor Wyatt Brown only completed nine laps before a mechanical issue sidelined him the rest of the night. On that same lap, Cameron Haney’s night came to a dramatic end with his sprint car veered to the right and took out a section of the turn two crash wall. He was uninjured but the car was destroyed. Teammates Jason Holt and Adam Ermolenko finished second and third. Nathan Johnson finished fourth. Chad Thompson rounded out the top five.
Youngster Cameron Hammett led the first four laps of the Hobby Stock feature. On the fifth lap Greg Rayl dove to the inside of Hammett and took the lead. Rayl led the next 10 laps to get the win. “It was youth versus the old guy,” said Rayl in victory lane with a chuckle. “I love this race track.” Hammett finished in the second spot. Shannon Collins, Anthony Doubledee and Jim Speck rounded out the top five.
Ryan McDaniel cruised to the 15 lap limited late model main event win. Eddie Garnder should be commended for keeping it close and finished second. David Larabee finished third. George Magenheimer and Keith Foux rounded out the top five.
