Second Time is A Charm for Dozier

Second Time is A Charm for Dozier

(Marysville, CA) 5/21/2016…There was a threat of rain predicted all night at Marysville Raceway. Yet, one man was determined to get the show in. Promoter Dennis Gage never gave up and because of his hard work point race #6 was run under what turned out to be clear skies and a comfortable night. Unfortunately, many competitors didn’t have the same belief and due to this, car counts were light among the four divisions that competed.

The threat of rain didn’t hamper the enthusiasm shown in victory lane Saturday night as Courtney Dozier picked up his second win of the year in the winged 360 sprint cars. “I owe it all to my crew,” said an exuberant Dozier. “The track was fast and I just had to hit my marks and stay straight.” Seventh place starting Cody Lamar, was a mover and a shaker all night. Lamar made solid moves in securing his second place finish. Third went to Jeremy Phillips who showed strength and tenacity throughout the night. Point leader Jeremy Burt scored a solid fourth place finish. Brad Bumgarner rolled off the grid in tenth and passed five cars to finish fifth. Jeremy Hawes was running in the second spot early in the event until a divot in the track disrupted his car and he almost flipped in turn three. Fifteen cars entered tonight’s event.

Todd Cooper is becoming a fixture on the front straight away after the races. Cooper picked up his third consecutive IMCA Sport Mod main event win at Marysville. Cooper led all 20 laps to get the win. His brother, Brian, finished second. Both Coopers seem to enjoy each other’s success and Brian is always spotted in victory lane with his brother.

Jerry Bartlett ran in the third spot and is just on the verge of getting his first win. Mike Merritt turned in another solid performance by finishing fourth. Justin Foux enjoyed his first top five finish of the second. A total of 14 cars entered the nights racing action.

Chris Warner dominated the street stock racing. He won the heat race and the main event to clean sweep the division. Phillip Shelby finished in the second spot. Shelby was doing double duty tonight. During the sport mod main event he was running second until a flat tire sidelined him. Third went to Brent Lawrence. Only four cars started the event.

Pro 4 Sprints also had a low car count. Four cars showed up. In the end it was all about Matt Beardslee who beat second place finisher Kelley Hicks by over four seconds. Third spot went to Jaylon Deas.
