Colby Wiesz Back on Top at Marysville

Marysville, CA (April 1, 2017) …. Colfax driver Colby Wiesz led all 25-laps to win the winged 360 sprint car main event on Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Wiesz was never seriously challenged for the win. Finishing in second was Chico’s Michael Ing who had a great night. Ing turned the fastest lap in qualifying and then backed that up with winning the first heat race. Third spot went to Marysville driver Jeremy Hawes. Chico’s Brad Bumgarner started eighth and came home fourth. A total of 17 cars attended the sprint car event. A scary incident occurred in qualifying when Heath Hall flipped wildly down the back stretch. The car was destroyed by Heath quickly emerged from the car and walked away. D.J. Freitas looked good in winning the second heat race. Emily Williams made her debut in winged sprint cars a success as she finished second in heat race two and came across eighth in the main event.

Danny Wagner beat an all-star cast of dwarf car racers Saturday night during the 20-lap main event. Wagner should be commended for driving such a good race. Matt Sargent charged all the way up to second but didn’t have anything for Wagner at the end. Shawn Jones finished in the third spot. Jones was his usual self and fast all night. Josh King also had a great night and finished fourth. Mike Grenert sliced and diced his way to fifth. Justin Winter held off Ben Wiesz to capture the semi-main event win. Captain Jack Haverty was dominate in the heat race number one. Mike Reeder schooled the rest of the drivers in heat race two and got the win. Speaking of talent, the IMCA Sport Mods have a bunch of talented drivers competing at Marysville. Phillip Shelby rebounded from an off night at Chico to win tonight at Marysville. Shelby held off Todd Cooper at the end of the 20-lap main event. Cooper was victorious the night before in Chico. Howard Law continued to be a factor and finished third at the checkered flag. Keith Brown continued his solid weekend and finished fourth. Jeff Bye Jr. rounded out the top five. Shane Devolder and Shelby each won heat races.

Brian Compton is two for two when it comes to Hobby Stock racing at Marysville. Compton once again made it look easy and won the 20-lap finale.
