Golobic Grabs Thrilling Civil War Series Opener

Golobic Grabs Thrilling Civil War Series Opener

(PETERSEN MEDIA- Marysville, CA)– Friday night at the Marysville Raceway, 2014 Series Champion, Shane Golobic, opened the 25th Anniversary Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster season up in exciting fashion, as he raced his way to a thrilling win.

With 27 cars checked into the pit area to kick the season off, Colby Wiesz took the early lead from his pole position as Dominic Scelzi was in hot pursuit of the race lead, until the caution flew after this first lap was completed.

The ensuing restart saw Golobic jump into the second spot, as Wiesz got away by a few car lengths as he worked the picture perfect Marysville Raceway. Getting into lapped traffic in a couple of laps, Golobic pulled alongside Wiesz on a pair of occasions, but Wiesz continued to lead until the race’s final two yellows came on lap eight, and on the ensuing restart.

The action would ramp up during the 22-lap green flag run, and though Wiesz was very good out front for the first half of the race, Golobic made a move exiting turn four to take the top spot on lap 15.

Behind the lead duo, Andy Forsberg and Justin Sanders were working their way forward, as Forsberg came right after the leaders, and moved into the second spot on the 18th circuit. In very dense traffic, Golobic continued to pace the field, but Forsberg was all over him, as Justin Sanders worked his way into the third with just nine laps to go, looking for his second win of the season at the track in 2015, and Bradley Terrell followed him as he took over the fourth spot.

Golobic was able to carve through traffic nicely, as he would go on to fend off Forsberg to score his first series win of the season.

“We were up front a lot last year with the Civil War Series, and were only able to get one win, so it feels nice to get a win right away,” Golobic said in victory lane. “This place (Marysville Raceway) isn’t normally my favorite track, but it was awesome tonight. I have to thank Keith Day, Rick Brag, My Dad, Chris, and everyone who helps on this car.”

Looking for his second consecutive win at the Marysville Raceway in 2015, Andy Forsberg would cross the stripe in the second position.

“Huge kudos to my crew tonight,” Forsberg said. “When the track gets slick like it did I usually struggle, but if I don’t, then my guys really did their job, and they did that tonight. I have to thank Cody and the entire C&M Motorsports team for all of their hard work.”

Picking up his third consecutive podium finish at the Marysville Raceway, Justin Sanders charged from 10th to third.

“We had a really good car, and it was a blast to come up through the field,” Sanders noted. “I wish we could have had another yellow, or started a few rows better, but we are rolling really well right now, and it is a huge credit to my F&W Racing team.

Bradley Terrell would finish in the fourth spot, Wiesz in fifth, Steven Tiner sixth, Scelzi seventh, Mason Moore eightj, Kenny Allen ninth, and Cody Lamar rounded out the Top-10.

In preliminary action, Brad Furr kicked things off by setting the standard in qualifying time trials. Heat race wins went to Scelzi, Terrell, and Sean Becker.

In B-Main action, Cody Lamar put on quite a performance to pick up the win as Kyler Shaw, Heath Hall, Chris Martin, Jim Richardson, Kenny Allen, and Cort Dozier all advanced to the main event.
