PRESS RELEASE-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hawes Spooktacular to End Race Year

(Marysville, CA 10/18/24) The 2024 Marysville Raceway season will conclude this Sat night Oct. 26 with the annual Paul Hawes Memorial Spooktacular.  This marks the tenth year for the Spooktacular and 4th year remembering former track operator Paul Hawes.  Hawes supported the event through sponsorship from his local excavation company H&H Trenching.  H&H has continued their support allowing the headlining 360 sprint car winner to pocket $2,500.

Breaking NEWS: Thanks to an Anonymous Wingless Sponsor, $1,800 has been added to their purse. The wingless race now pays $1,500 to win, then $600, $500, $350, $325, $200 up to 13th spot.
With the generous extra money from Jeremy Hawes, H & H Trenching, and the anyomous wingless sponsor, the Spooktacular is paying an additional $4,300 this weekend.

The winged 360 sprint cars will be joined by wingless spec. sprints, crate sprints and Lightning Sprints.  The four-division sprint car format has allowed the nickname of “Sprint Spooktacular” to be adopted as well.  This will just be the second spec. sprint race and Lightning sprint race of the year at the Raceway.  Crate sprints, the new affordable sprint car class, using a Chevrolet crate or spec. engine ran the full 2024 season at the speedway.

The Spooktacular theme has become very popular with local youngsters.  In addition to extensive decorations and spooky displays at the track children get to enjoy track or treat.  Patterned after trunk or treat, the competitors with race car line up on the front stretch of the speedway at intermission and the kids join them.  The children get a firsthand view of a real race car, and the drivers all have prizes and candy to hand out.

Local Marysville brothers Carson and Dawson Hammes will head the 360-winged sprint car class.  The two youngsters finished first and second in the season long championship and won 5 main events between them in the 12-race series.

Veteran Auburn driver Andy Forsberg, a former Spooktacular winner, will be on hand to challenge the Hammes boys.

Kyle Cheney and Howard Law, both of Yuba City, battled to a tie in Hobby Stock racing this year.  The tie breaker had been established as the most main event wins which Cheney won with 6 compared to Law at 3.  Trey Walters led the wingless cars last year and Gregg Dennett will be a top Lightning sprint contender.

Marysville Raceway is located just off Simpson Lane next to the Marysville Flea Market in the Yuba River flood plain.

The ¼ mile clay oval has operated for more the 60 years at this location.  Over time it has had numerous configurations and operators.  Improvements over the last decade have made the facility rival any California oval track operation and draws a large contingent of racers and fans.

The pit gate will open at 2 P.M. on October 26.  The ticket office and front spectator gate open at 5 P.M.  Qualifying is planned for 5:45 and racing at 6:30.   Adult tickets are $20, Juniors and Seniors $17(12-15, over 62).
