Jacob Johnson Earns First Marysville Crate Win

MARYSVILLE, Calif., July 27, 2024…Jacob Johnson earned his first career Crate Sprint win on Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Johnson led all 20 laps to secure the popular win. Johnson was able to hold off a hard charger Koa Crane. The point being, Crane is the point leader and winner of four main events this season. Not many in this division have been able to keep Crane behind them this season. Johnson also survived many restarts, some lapped traffic, and probably the nervousness of leading the main event in the final few laps. It was an A+ performance from Johnson. Caleb Ingle raced in the second spot for the first half of the race. On lap 10 his car came to a stop in turn two. Unfortunately, he was unable to continue. Derek Droivold held a top five spot for most of the race until lap 18 when he stopped and was credited with a ninth-place finish. Matthew Kaiser raced into the third spot late in the race. Misty Castleberry earned another top five finish in fourth. Cort Marchuk continued to improve and finished fifth. Kaiser and Crane each won their eight-lap heat race.

Dawson Hammes would not be denied tonight. The 360-sprint car driver started fourth in the 25-lap main event. By lap nine he took the lead away from Adrianna DeMartini and never looked back. Hammes worked slower traffic to perfection late in the race and held over a two-second lead over Dryver Dothage at the checkered flag. It was the second win of the season for Hammes. Jake Haulot was the hard charger of the night. After arriving late to the track, he missed qualifying. He ran the heat race and started 10th in the main. Haulot charged to a third-place finish. Billy Wallace finished fourth. William Fielding had an eventful race. Fielding was on the pole position for the original start. On the second attempt, he was bumped from behind and spun in turn four collecting three other cars. He regrouped and charged back to a fifth-place finish.

Dryver Dothage turned the fastest lap in qualifying with 12.992. He was the only driver able to break into the 12-second bracket. It was also his first career quick time at Marysville. Carson Hammes won the first heat race. The second heat race came to a stop after the original start when Dawson Hammes and Drake Standley banged wheels going into turn one. Standley flipped wildly and unfortunately, was not able to race the rest of the night. Standley was the point leader going into the race. Hammes went on to win the race.

A huge turnout of 24 Dwarf Cars attended tonight’s race. The group ran four amazing heat races that entertained the crowd. The 20-car field took the green flag for the main event, and it was Gage Meyers taking control of the race. Tenth place starting Shawn Whitney soon made his way towards the front. On lap eight he passed Meyers for the lead. From there, Whitney led the final 12 laps. He held off Mike Reeder for the popular win. Meyers held the third spot until lap 18, when he was passed by Jace Badeker. Mike Grenert was also able to pass Meyers on the same lap to secure the fourth spot. Meyers ended up fifth. The race was very entertaining, and these drivers should be commended for the great night of racing. With the large car count a B main event was needed. Winning the 12-lap semi-main was Brandon Aylesworth. Kinser Endicott won the first heat race. Cody Shrum captured the second heat race win. Badeker won the third heat. Dylan Shrum won the fourth heat race. It was a photo finish as he held off Reeder at the line.
