Repeat Winners at Marysville Raceway

MARYSVILLE, Calif., Aug 3, 2024…With four different divisions scheduled to race, over 60 cars invaded the Marysville Raceway this past Saturday night. Current 360-point leader Carson Hammes led all 25 laps to win his second main event of the season. Hammes bested 19 other drivers who started the main event. Chasing Hammes to the checkered flag were Jake Haulot and Justin Henry. Numerous times throughout the feature event, Haulot and Henry traded the second spot. Last week’s winner, Dawson Hammes, drove his way up into a fourth-place finish. Fast time qualifier William Fielding finished fifth. Dawson Hammes won the first eight lap heat race. Josh Young returned to sprint car racing and won heat race two. Carson won the third and final heat. Carson will take a 12-point lead over brother Dawson in the next point race which will take place on September 7.

The first 15 laps of the Crate Sprint car main event were non-stop, action packed, and had the crowd engaged. The final five laps were not good. The race was halted seven different times, and the excitement of the race was lost. Give Matthew Kaiser credit as he survived all the stoppages and never faltered. He went on to score the 20-lap win picking up his third point race win and fourth overall victory at Marysville Raceway. Mike Hall looked competitive all night and finished second. Misty Castleberry had a pep in her step and moved into the third spot. Fourth went to Koa Crane. Fifth went to Caleb Ingle. Derek Droivold and Jason Ballantine each won their eight-lap heat race. A total of 15 cars competed tonight. The final point race of season will take place on September 7th.

Kyle Cheney passed early leader Devin Koranda on lap nine and went on to win his sixth main event of the year. Koranda never gave up and chased Cheney all the way to the checkered flag. Moving up nicely was Brian Cooper who raced his way into third but could never muster a big challenge on the top two. Howard Law survived a horrendous start that saw him fall back to 10th. Law regrouped and drove into the fourth spot just past the halfway point. Law would finish fourth behind Cooper. Matt Beardslee was on a mission after spinning on lap five while in the second spot. He restarted 13th and raced his way back into a fifth-place finish. Law, Cheney and Cooper each won their eight-lap heat race. Cheney now leads Law by just three points. The championship concludes on September 7th.

Sixth place starting Mike Ficklin Jr. took the lead on lap nine and went on to win the IMCA Sport Mod main event. The driver he passed was Shannon Barton who had led the first eight laps. Barton dipped to a fourth-place finish late in the race. Mark Garner charged into the second spot late in the race. Following him most of the race was point leader Raymond Lindeman. Jimmy Ford rounded out the top five. Lindeman takes a four-point lead into the final race for the IMCA Sport Mods on September 14th. Barton won the action packed lone eight lap heat race.
