Hawes Gets the Better of Allen

Marysville, CA (Aug 18, 2018) – Jeremy Hawes led wire-to-wire during Saturday nights main event at Marysville Raceway. It was Hawes second win of the year during the competitive winged 360 sprint car division. Chasing Hawes most of the race was Chico’s Kenny Allen. This week the rivalry between these two was documented in a press release. It was a fitting end to the race seeing these two drivers get to battle it out on the speedway. It was easy to see that both drivers gave it all they had. Mike Monahan finished third. The overall night was a win for Monahan because he didn’t lose that many championship points to Allen. Billy Wallace finished fourth and Brent Bjork rounded out the top five.
For the second week in a row Allen turned the fastest lap in qualifying. His lap time was a 12.449. Allen also earned the $100 bonus award from Blackout Fight Gear and Apparel.
Kyle Cheney led all 20-laps in winning the Hobby Stock main event. Jesse Van Roekel ran second for most of the night until on lap 12 when he came to a stop in turn three. The race resumed with ninth place starting Chris Van Roekel now in the second spot. Chris tried everything he could do to try and pass Cheney. Give Cheney credit, he never waivered in his driving style and got the win. It was his third win of the season. Jim Brookshire had a solid night of racing and finished third. Jeremiah Creedon started eighth and raced his way into a fourth-place finish. Point leader Shannon Collins rounded out the top five.
Darren Johnson picked up win number five this season racing in the Crate Winged Sprint Car division. Johnson led all 20-laps to get the win. Mike Sayre held down the second spot until lap 15 when he struggled to get around a slower car. This allowed third place Cameron Haney to pass Sayre for second. Haney would hold on to finish in the runner up spot. Sayre was third. Last weekend’s winner Jeff Macedo was fourth. Jaylon Deas finished fifth. The race went 20-laps nonstop. Haney got the better of Deas tonight and will hold the point lead going into the season finale in two weeks.
Even though Steve Hammett led all 20-laps in the Super Stock main event, the race was far from boring. Dennis Wood moved into the second spot on lap 10 and shadowed Hammett the next nine laps. The white flag was waived and both drivers were nose to tail. However, coming out of turn two Wood had a run to the inside of Hammett as both drivers raced into turn three. With no room to spare there was contact between the two. Wood’s car came to a stop. Chris Warner was in third but couldn’t capitalize. Hammett somehow continued and crossed the finish line first. Warner in second. Rod Oliver finished third and Wood sat helpless in turn three. The crowd gave a big round of applause to both the winner Hammett and to Wood as they towed his car off the track.
