Forsberg Wins His First Spooktacular
Marysville, CA (Oct 27, 2018) – Auburn’s Andy Forsberg capped off an incredible 2018 racing season by winning the spectacular Gold Fever H & H Trenching Spooktacular 25-lap winged 360 sprint car main event Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Forsberg once again lucked out by having Jimmy Wall pull the correct pill that placed Forsberg on the pole position. Once the green flag waived it was evident that it was Forsberg’s race to win. He led all 25 laps to capture the $2,000 payday. “This is a race that I had circled on my calendar back when the schedules came out,” said the 2018 Silver Dollar and Placerville Speedway champion. “I am happy that all the fans came out to support this race and we will be back doing this all over again in February. See you then.” Forsberg also earned an extra $100 by turning the fastest lap in qualifying thanks to Performance Auto Supply in Marysville.
Fellow front row starter Matt Peterson shadowed Forsberg for the first seven laps until Cole Macedo passed him for second. Around lap 13 Cody Hodgson passed Peterson for third. Unfortunately, Peterson’s night came to an end on lap 19 when he stopped in turn four. Before that, the race went 14 laps non-stop until Jeremy Hawes also came to a stop in turn three. Hawes battled back to finish 10th. The race got a little chunky on lap 23 when a series of yellows and a red for Billy Butler slowed the event and prolonged the finish. Once the track was clear and the checkered flag officially waived it was Forsberg winning followed by Macedo, Hodgson and Sean Becker. Becker charged from the fourth row to finish fourth. Michael Ing rebounded from a heat race flip to finish fifth. Ing also picked up the B main event win. It was a nice turnout of winged 360 sprint cars, 29, to end the 2018 season at Marysville.
Jake Morgan was in the right place at the right time to capture the wingless sprint car main event. Morgan led most of the event until veteran champion Terry Schank Jr. passed him on lap 15. Schank extended the lead and took the white flag as the leader. But going into turn one something mechanical broke inside the Joe Hunt Magnetos No. 1 and he brought the car to a stop near the turn two exit. Morgan restarted the event as the leader and held on to win. Give credit to Shannon Newton. Newton was all over Morgan the last two laps but never quite able to pass him for the lead. Newton finished second. Peter Paulson is always in the hunt for a win. Tonight, he came up two spots short in third. A total of 10 wingless sprints attended the final show.
Eight competitors showed up for the final Crate Sprint Car race of the season. One of them was a 305 RaceSaver sprint car. The other drivers allowed Tim Sherman Jr. to compete against them. Sherman went on to win the main event, yet, brought out the second-place car Jeff Macedo and presented him with the trophy. “I want to thank all the competitors in the Crate division for letting me race,” said Sherman. “If it wasn’t for them I would have had to load up and go home.” Cameron Haney Jr. survived motor problems all night to finish third.
