Michael Ing Three-Peat-Ing
Marysville, CA (April 7, 2019) –For the third time in as many starts, Chico’s Michael Ing cruised to the 25-lap win during the winged 360 sprint car main event at Marysville Raceway. While Ing did lead all 25 circuits, from laps four to 15, he was challenged by Jake Haulot. The two drivers drove hard, challenging each other on the fast-tacky track. Their battle for the lead was slowed on lap 14, when Kevin Lovell was forced into the turn three off ramp area and the yellow was needed. On the ensuing restart, Ing got up in the seat and drove away from the rest of the field. As Ing distanced himself, Haulot seemed to lose the set-up under his No. 7h and was passed by hard charging Colby Wiesz on lap 15. Fifth-place starting Brent Bjork was as fast as anyone during the final 10 laps of the event. On lap 18, Bjork passed Haulot for third. Haulot did hold onto a fourth-place finish. Mike Monahan rounded out the top five. Haulot turned the fastest lap of the night in qualifying with a 12.220. Bjork won the first heat. John Clark did a nice job in picking up the heat two win.
The Dwarf Car 20-lap main event was spectacular. Close racing, and tons of passing on top of a relentless battle for the lead once again proves why this traveling group of bandits puts on one of the best shows in all of California. Kevin Bender jumped out to the early lead. On lap 6, Shawn Whitney was credited with the lead. Bender assumed the lead on the following lap. Lap nine was the turning point of the event. Bender relinquished the lead to Jeremy Blackshere. In fact, Bender fell back to fourth as Mike Grenert and Ben Wiesz both passed him. On lap 15, Wiesz was able to pass Grenert. At this point, Wiesz was about two seconds behind Blackshere. As the laps winded down, it was evident the Weisz was catching Blackshere. On lap 18, Wiesz caught the leader. Coming out of turn four and headed towards the white flag, Wiesz dove to the inside of Blackshere that resulted in inconsequential contact. Wiesz spun around and came to a quick stop on the front stretch. The yellow was waived. The final restart saw Blackshere win with ease. Behind him Bender passed Grenert for second. Mike Reeder finished fourth. Tenth place starting Ryan Plexico rounded out the top five. Wiesz, Reeder and Blackshere all won their respective heat races.
Matt Micheli dominated the 20-lap Super Street Stock main event. As he crossed the checkered flag, Micheli held almost an 11-second lead over second place finishing Brent Lawrence. Give Lawrence a ton of credit with his impressive finish. He came to play with the big boys and drove his street stock to a second-place finish. Third spot went to Mike Learn. George Magenheimer passed Eddie Gardner at the line for fourth. It was a great photo finish. On lap 11, the race was slowed when Jerry Bartlett’s famed No. 00 dropped the transmission out of his car and onto the race track. The mechanical failure resulted in Bartlett’s car being lifted off the racing surface in a unique way. Once the car stopped, Bartlett emerged and walked away from a scary situation. Micheli and Bartlett each one their heat race.
We are off this coming Saturday, but racing returns on Saturday night, April 20th.
