Great Night of Racing at Marysville

Marysville, CA (June 15, 2019) …. Jeremy Phillips jumped out into the lead of the 20-lap IMCA Pepsi Sport Mod feature. After the first lap was completed, David Larabee stopped in turn four. Racing resumed with Phillips still leading the way. On lap five, second place Jim Waller and third place Mike Merritt spun to a stop in turn two. This moved Brain Cooper up to second for the restart. Andrew Peckham moved into third but on lap 10, drifted off the racetrack in turn two and fell back to fifth. This moved Todd Cooper into third and Jimmy Ford into fourth. Give the drivers in tonight’s main event a lot of credit. The race was entertaining and only had to cautions. All 20-laps took under 10 minutes to complete. With two laps to go, Peckham moved back around Ford and both Coopers to grab second. Brian Cooper held off a charging Todd Copper for third. Ford finished fifth. While Phillips led all the laps, the battle between Peckham, both Coopers and Ford was worth the price of admission. Once again, great job by all involved, but especially those top five. Timothy Allerdings came home sixth. Merritt rebounded to finish seventh. A total of 14 drivers attended tonight’s race.
It took four attempts to get the Crate Sprints main event underway. Brett Youngman led the first lap. Yet, going into turn on Kevin Dozier rode up and over the left side of Youngman. Dozier flipped and then landed back on all four wheels. The car was damaged, but Dozier emerged uninjured. Youngman suffered damage also and went to the work area. He returned after damages were fixed on the No. XX. Nick Larson was the new leader and led until lap 5 when he spun by himself in turn two. Jeff Macedo emerged as the new driver to beat. Cameron Haney Jr. was in the second spot but spun in turn two and somehow kept it going but fell back to sixth. Youngman moved back into second. Macedo was able to lead the final 10 laps. Youngman got close but never found the real estate needed to pass for the lead. Kiely Ricardo drove another solid race to finish third. Larson also rebounded to finish fourth. Haney Jr. crossed the line in fifth. Larson won the lone heat race. Seven cars competed.
The winged 360 sprint car race lined up with 19 cars going 25-laps. Kalib Henry and Peter Paulson lined up on the front row. Henry took the lead going into turn one and led the first ten laps. William Fielding spun in turn two on the tenth lap to bring out the first caution. Up to this point the top of the track had gone away. The bottom was the place to be. This would make passing very difficult. Lapped traffic was tough to get around but at one-point Henry gad three cars between himself and Wallace. Brad Bumgarner was the show. He fearlessly dove around Haulot and Ing on lap 14 and took third. Jimmy Stewart spun on lap 17 to bring the race to a halt. Henry, Wallace and Bumgarner were the top three. The final eight laps took way too long. Numerous yellow flags and a red slowed thing to a crawl. Wyatt Brown spun on lap 19. Bobby Butler flipped on lap 20. Then three laps later Bumgarner spun around by himself while running third. Henry stayed cool, calm and collected and gave father Mike Henry an early father’s day present by leading all 25-laps to get the win. Wallace finished second. Peter Paulson drove an outstanding race to finish third. Another strong performance by Alec Justeson in fourth. Jake Haulot rounded out the top five. Haulot grabbed the top spot in qualifying at a 12.743. Paulson, Michael Faccinto and Mike Monahan won the three eight lap heats.
Richard Vander Ploeg led the opening few laps of the Super Stock feature. On lap four Matt Micheli took the lead. From here on out it was all about Micheli. He extended the lead and continued to post the fastest laps. The real race was for second. Vander Ploeg and Rod Oliver sliced and diced for second. Great, fun and entertaining battle. Micheli cruised to the win. Oliver held off Vander Ploeg for second. George Magenheimer came home fourth.
