Big Crowds and Big Car Counts on July 3rd
Marysville, CA (July 3, 2019) – A spectacular turnout of fans and cars celebrated America’s Independence Wednesday night July 3rd at Marysville Raceway. In all 50 racecars amongst four divisions thrilled the capacity crowd at Marysville Raceway. Following the races, the turn three and four area is where they shot off a plethora of fireworks that lit up the sky.
Auburn’s Andy Forsberg started on the pole position and jumped out to the lead during the sprint car main event. Raquel Hall came to a stop in turn four on the second lap to bring out a yellow. On lap six trouble found both Chelsea Blevins who spun to a stop in turn one and Cole Macedo who was forced into the infield and stopped. Forsberg continued to lead followed by Bobby Butler and Michael Ing. The race slowed once again on lap 12 when Macedo stopped in turn two and Brandon Dozier slowed in turn one. Ron LaPlant brought out the red on the ensuing restart when the No. 69 catapulted high into the night sky in turn one. Driver walked away but car had heavy damage. Two more reds slowed the event. Heath Hall flipped by himself going into turn one. Tough break for Hall as he was in fourth at the time. Then on lap 18, Mike Monahan flipped widely in turn two. Jesse Love also had damage on his front end. With too many stoppages the officials decided to cut the race to 20-laps. The final restart saw Forsberg pull away from Ing to get the win. Butler drove a good race for third. Colby Wiesz was solid as usual and finished fourth. The drive of the night went to Jake Andreotti. In his first sprint car race at Marysville, he charged from 19th to 5th. He showed great car control. Very impressed with his result.
Forsberg passed Heath Hall with three laps to go and captured the win in heat one. Chelsea Blevins dominated her fellow drivers to get the win in heat two. Ing passed Raquel Hall on the final lap to win an exciting third and final heat race. Andy Forsberg turned the quickest lap in qualifying at a 12.863. Twenty-four big sprints competed tonight.
Opening lap of the Crate Sprint feature saw R.C. Smith come to a stop in turn two with front end damage. Jeff Macedo led the first five laps. Macedo drifted up the track a bit entering turn one and that is all Nick Larson needed. Larson took the lead coming off turn two. On lap eight the race was halted when Mike Ballentine spun in turn one. On lap 11 Cameron Haney Jr. got out of shape and spun in turn two. Bret Youngman moved into second; however, on the restart almost spun and fell back to fourth. Back up-front Larson rocketed to the popular win. It was his third of the year. Second was Jeff Macedo. Third went to Kiely Ricardo. Youngman came home fourth. Chad Thompson was fifth. Nick Larson led all 8 laps to win the lone Crate Sprint heat race. R.C. came from the seventh spot to finish second.
Andrew Peckham led the opening lap during the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Soon Todd Cooper jumped into the second spot. Jim Waller ran in the third spot. The race was slowed on lap ten with Damian Merritt and Brian Cooper spun in turn one. Up to that point, give the Sport Mods credit as they went non-stop until that wreck. Lap 13 David Larabee spun in turn one. The final seven laps were fun. Peckham was able to hold the lead and win but Cooper tried everything in his power to pass him. Throw in Phillip Shelby and Kevin Johnson and the top four put on a great display of speed and driving talent. It was Peckham’s third win of the year at Marysville. Jim Waller led all eight laps to win the first IMCA Pepsi Sport Mod heat race. Phillip Shelby thrilled the crowd with a last row charge to the front and won heat race number two.
Richard Vander Ploeg led the first lap. Rod Oliver then took over the top spot on lap two. It was a good start for the 15-lap Super Street main event. Oliver led the next 12 laps. Going into turn one on the final lap, Micheli made slight contact with Oliver. Oliver turned sideways and Micheli took the lead. He led the final half lap to get the win. Oliver hung on for second. Joey Olschowka finished third and Richard Vander Ploeg was fourth. Micheli won the lone eight lap heat race earlier in the night.
