Forsberg 4-time Winner of Hall Memorial
Marysville, CA (11-9-19)…For the final time in 2019, the thunder and roar of the winged and non-wing sprint cars entertained the huge crowd that gathered Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. The race was in honor of former promoter Mel Hall. A nice turnout of 30 Civil War Sprints and 26 Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprints all converged for the 20th edition of the Mel Hall Memorial.
Auburn’s Andy Forsberg took the lead on lap 12 of the 30-lap Civil War finale and went on to win his fourth Mel Hall Memorial event. It also marked Forsberg’s 13th win for 2019. Justyn Cox led the first 11 laps and held on for second. Cox pressured Forsberg all night on the lightening fast wet surface. Sean Becker hovered in third for most of the show but spun on lap 25 and finished 10th. This moved up Michael into a podium finish. Ing capped off a solid year with a nice third place finish. Tanner Carrick was impressive all night and finished fourth. Yet, younger brother Blake was the show. Blake charged from 18th to a fifth-place finish. Very impressive indeed. Blake will win a sprint car main event next season. \
Forsberg’s win earned him a $3,000 payday. Other drivers will see a bump in their check from the Raceway because of the extra money gathered by the Hall family. Both Carson and Bella Hall ran their Outlaw Kart’s during Opening Ceremonies.
Fresno’s Koen Shaw finished sixth and wrapped up the 2019 Civil War Sprint Car Series Championship. It is a well-deserved honor for Shaw and his family.
Ing won the six-lap dash. Forsberg turned the fastest lap in qualifying at 11.939. Rowdy McClenon win the 12-lap B main. Billy Butler, Michael Ing, Tanner Carrick and Caden Sarale were all victorious during their 10-lap heat races.
Bradley Terrell passed Shane Hopkins on lap seven to secure the lead during the Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprint Car Series 25-lap feature. Seventh place starting Jake Morgan moved into second on lap 11 and began to close in on Terrell. Those two put on a great show. In fact, as the two raced in and out of traffic, they defied logic and put on the best race of the night. The two were side by side on the final lap. Terrell never waivered and beat Morgan to the checkered flag by 0.170 seconds. It was a close finish. Dan Gonderman rounded out the top three. D Johnson started 10th and finished fourth. Early leader Hopkins ran fifth. Jake Morgan won the drivers title while Barry Pries Jr. is the car champion.
DJ Johnson won the 10-lap wingless main. Terrell was the quickest qualifier during single car time trials. His lap was 13.535. Schank Jr., Morgan, Braidon Moniz and Boy Moniz all won their 8-lap hats.
