Netto, Cooper, Lindgren and Youngman get Wins

Marysville, CA 5-9-20…With strict guidelines and rules in place the Marysville Raceway re-opened to some normalcy Saturday night. The Speedway did not allow fans in the grandstands and adequately placed haulers at six feet apart to accommodate the 82-car field. In fact, some of the overflow parking was used to park late arriving teams. The race was broadcasted on Speed Shift Tv with nearly 600 viewers tuning in at one point or another.
Without the fans buying tickets and concessions throughout the night, the Raceway offered a reduced purse. However, the racing family is so caring and thoughtful, that people donated nearly $3,000 extra dollars to the four divisions racing. The extra money was led by PitStopUSA.com. Andrew contacted the staff and put together an amazing $1200 prize package. The winged 360 sprint car winner would receive an extra $750, the Sport Mod main event winner will receive an extra $250 and the Hobby Stock and Crate Sprints earned an extra $100. Track photographer Casey Lee got the ball rolling through Facebook and did a fantastic job of gathering extra cash incentives that were paid out at the track last night. At end of article I tried to list everyone involved with donations if you were not mentioned in the story.
Twenty-eight-winged 360 sprint cars entered the show. Ryan Robinson started off strong and won an extra $140 by turning the fastest lap in qualifying. His fast lap clocked in at a 12.474. Paul Olmsted Plastering gave $100 cash and $40 from Kevin in the pit area. Heat races victories went to Jesse Love, Brent Bjork, Garen Linder and Geoff Ensign. The 12-lap semi-main event winner was Colby Wiesz.
Andy Forsberg lined up with his buddy Geoff Ensign on the front row of the 25-lap sprint car main event. Before the race started, the drivers were informed that with the donated money, the win now paid $2200. Forsberg jumped out to the lead. By this time in the night most of the competitors dove to the bottom groove where the moisture had come back to life. This caused some issues in turn one, as the entrance became a little choppy. DJ Netto was on the move. He started ninth and by lap 10 he had moved into third. A few laps later Ensign moved up the track a bit in turn one and left an opportunity for Netto to capitalize. As Netto charged by his right rear contacted Ensigns left front. As Netto continued, Ensigns car came to a stop with front end damage. Another driver on the move was 14th starting John Michael Bunch. The former track champion looked comfortable behind the wheel again. As laps were winding down, Forsberg closed in on a group of three cars battling for 10th on the track. On Lap 23, Forsberg contacted one of the slower cars and ended up flipping. It was a rough way to end his night after leading the first 23-laps. Netto was now the leader and went on to win the race. Robinson capped off his solid night by finishing second. Bunch was third. Clayton Snow brought in Texas driver T.J. Michael to drive the No. 7. Michael impressed with a fourth-place finish. Jesse Love finished fifth. In two career starts at Marysville Raceway, Love has finished in at least the top five of both. Tiner Hirst Enterprises put in a $200 Hard Charger Award. The winner was Jacob Tuttle who started 22nd and finished 10th. Tuttle earned 12 spots in the main event. JJ Hickle was also impressive. He started 15th and finished sixth. Michael Ing went from 13th to seventh.
PJ Petersen of Petersen Media donated $200 to the winner also. Kyle Offill Racing, Team KO, put up an extra $100 to the winner. Troy White, photographer, added $50 to the Hard Luck driver of the night. That went to Nick Larsen who flipped on lap 13 of the feature.
After the win, Netto announced that him and his team were donating all the winnings to St. Bridget’s Community Center in his hometown of Hanford. The Center collects canned foods and clothing for the needy in Hanford.
Brett Yougman earned his second win a row during the Crate Sprint main event. Trouble found early leader Cameron Haney Jr as he came to a stop in turn two on lap two. Kiely Ricardo spun violently into the turn one wall on the same lap. The car was wrecked, and she was done for the night. Mike Ballentine spun twice during the race and was ultimately disqualified. Youngman patiently hounded David Sims for the lead. Youngman found an opening on the bottom and cruised by for the lead. Youngman went on to win by nearly five seconds. Sims was second and Chad Thompson ran third.
Yuba City’s Brian Cooper earned a hard-fought win over Jason Ferguson in the Sport Mod feature. Ferguson led a lot of the laps, but it was ninth place starting Cooper whole stole the show. Cooper and his family continue to rise towards the top of Sport Mod racing in Nor Cal. Give Ferguson credit, he finished second. Timothy Allerdings ran in the top five all night and secured the third-place finish behind Ferguson. Mike Merritt and Chris Falkenberg battled all night to stay in the top five. Merritt eventually beat Falkenberg for the fourth-place spot. Seven stoppages slowed the event. Even a red flag was needed when Craig Neiman flipped down the back stretch. Jimmy Ford was involved in the last caution on lap seven but battled back to a ninth-place finish. Mike Ficklin and Rusty McMillan rounded out the top seven. Phillip Shelby, Fred Ryland and Ford each won their respective eight-lap heat race.
The Hobby Stocks continue to be a main stay at Marysville Raceway. Twenty-five cars attended the races tonight. To their credit, they provided the best finish of the night. Chris Van Roekel led most of the race and held the lead on the final lap. Yet, second place Zach Lindgren would not be denied. Lindgren passed Van Roekel going into turn three, held the bottom groove and was the first to the checkered flag. What a show! The difference between the two was 0.098 secs at the stripe. David Caluya ran third. Robert Warf is credited with a solid finish in fourth and Jim Brookshire was fifth. Making it even more impressive, Caluya and Warf started together in the seventh row! Early leader Jacob Johnson had a tire issue on lap four. Zack Thornton was also up front before issues sent him to a 13th place finish. Kyle Cheney has worked his way into second before he slowed in turn two on lap eight and exited the track. Thornton, Johnson Lindgren, and Chris Van Roekel each won their eight-lap heats.
