Wasina, Law, and Macedo Pick up Wins Saturday Night

Marysville, CA – (4-23-22) …Another solid evening of racing at Marysville Raceway wrapped up Saturday night seeing Howard Law back in victory lane for the third time this season. Law took the lead away from Maurice Merrill on lap seven and went on to win the race by more than three-seconds over Zach Lindgren.  Lindgren started in the eighth spot and charged into second place with five laps to go. The early portion of the race had Niles Strever lead the first lap.  Sebastian Davis officially led lap two. Davis spun out of the lead going into lap three. Merrill finished in the third spot. Kyle Cheney has been solid all season and finished fourth. Cheney originally started in the 12th spot. Scott Rogers made a rare start at Marysville and rounded out the top five. The green flag racing was outstanding tonight.  Behind Law, the field was racing as hard as we have seen all season. At this point, Law has been the dominant driver of the Hobby Stocks.  The Hobby Stocks return to Marysville Raceway on May 21st.  Drivers and teams have about a month to find some more speed in the cars to compete with Law.

Michael Wasina drove a flawless race to capture the winged 360 sprint car main event, his first career win.  The box score will show Wasina led all 25 laps, but it wasn’t as easy as it looked. Wasina survived challenges from Nick Larsen, Brian McGahan Jr., Brad Bumgarner, Dennis Scherer, and Casey Schmitz.  All the before mentioned names at one point held the second-place spot on the track during the main event. The final two laps saw Schmitz build up momentum on the top side of the speedway and track down Wasina. It was a close finish, as Wasina barely held off Schmitz by 0.579 seconds. Larsen had a great night and finished third. Scherer battled up front all night to finish fourth. Koa Crane continues to improve and finished fifth. The race was delayed early on when Chance Grasty was shoved out of the racing groove and ended up hitting the turn two fencing. The fence needed to be repaired before the race could be restarted. Racing resumes for the winged 360 sprint cars on May 14th.

The Crate Sprint Main was over the top exciting to watch. The drivers should be commended for putting on a good show for the fans tonight. The action was fast and furious with multiple leaders throughout the 20-lap event. Chase Madden and Misty Castleberry started the race trading the lead back and forth the first two laps. On lap three, Chase took control.  Problems arose just before the halfway point for Madden who stopped in turns three and four. Britton Bock was the new leader. A few laps later, Mike Ballentine began to pressure Bock for the lead.  The race intensified as Bock and Ballentine swapped the lead back and forth with good, close racing. Another driver soon emerged as the favorite to win. Jeff Macedo drove past both Bock and Ballentine to get the lead with a few laps to go. Ballentine passed Bock on the next to last lap. Macedo hung on for the win.  Ballentine was second. Bock third. Lost in the great battle up front was hard charging Brett Youngman, who started 17th and finished fourth. Jacob Johnson continued to impress and finished fifth. The Crate Sprints get an extended break and come back on June 18th.
