Majdic Show at Marysville Raceway

PRESS RELEASE-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It’s a Majdic Show at Marysville

(Marysville, CA 5/13/23)…Chase Majdic won a thrilling 25-lap sprint car main event Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. It was Majdic’s first win of the season piloting the Mark Moore owned No. 1. Majdic was a rocket ship all night and earned fast time honors in qualifying. Majdic held off a hard charging Brian McGahan Jr. The two waged war for the top spot but in the end Majdic was the first one to the checkered flag. Third spot went to Koa Crane who continued to impress. Shane Hopkins went from 13th to fourth. Hopkins showed his driving skills in route to the impressive finish. Colby Wiesz rounded out the top five. Bobby Butler and Carson Hall were both ok after a lap five flip. Neither continued. Carson Hammes won the first heat race. Wiesz won heat race two. McGahan Jr. was the winner of heat race three. A total of 24 cars attended tonight’s race.

Over 60 cars filled the pit area. It was a hot day in Marysville, as temperatures rose to 97 degrees. Thanks, are to Paul Olmstead Plastering who sponsored a total of $400 towards tonight’s event. Each main event winner got an extra $100 and fast time in the winged 360 sprint car division won an extra $100.

Misty Castleberry earned her second win of the year in the Crate Sprints 20-lap main event. Castleberry was stout as she handled a tough field of drivers chasing her all night. Her only stumble occurred on lap 15 when Matthew Kaiser passed her for the lead. Castleberry had been committed to the top and Kaiser used the bottom to pass her. Yet, David Simms spun out before the lap was completed. This gave Castleberry back the lead. Castleberry then moved to the bottom of the track for the restart and held the lead. It was such a great move by a talented veteran to adjust her line. After that brilliant move, Castleberry led the final four laps with ease. Kaiser came home second. Mike Hall did great all night and finished third. Jason Ballentine continued to be a force and finished fourth. Carl Droivold rounded out the top five. Earlier in the night, Droivold won the second heat race. Kaiser earned top honors in heat one. A nice total of 15 cars attended the race.

The BCRA Lightning Sprints were a fan favorite tonight. Two incredible heat races were followed up by a top notch 20-lap slug fest in the A main. Greg Dennett and Scott Kinney put on a race that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. From lap six to 13, those two raced side by side, without touching, and thrilling the crowd. It was anyone’s guess how this race was going to end. With about five laps to go, Dennett found the quicker line around the bottom of the track and began to slightly pull away. Dennett went on to win the race, Kinney was second, but the crowd saluted both for an entertaining race. Dakota Albright was solid all night. He won an earlier heat race and was able to finish third in the main event. Cody Meyer held the fourth position for most of the race. Joseph Feralito charged from an eighth place start to a fifth place finish. Harely Aguilera won the second heat race. Matt Land was the quickest qualifier, the only driver in the 13-second bracket. His fast lap was a 13.993 trip around the quarter-mile speedway.

The IMCA Sport Mod 20-lap main event was dominated by Jace Wright. Second place finishing Scott Savell was nearly five-seconds behind Wright at the finish line. Wright did a great job tonight as he stayed up front, out of trouble, and earned a nice win. Savell was solid during the race and finished in second. The best battle on the track was between Shaun Merritt and deep starting Jimmy Ford. These two drivers raced for the third spot. In the end it was Merritt in third, Ford was fourth. With Phillip Shelby not attending, this will move Ford into the point lead. Fifth went to Jason Clayton Jr. Ford and Merritt each won heat races.
