Hammes and Lindeman Win Track Championships
MARYSVILLE, Calif., September 14, 2024…The Marysville Raceway wants to congratulate two new track champions. After Saturday night’s race, Marysville’s 17-year-old sprint car phenom Carson Hammes won the 360-track championship by 37 points over older brother Dawson. Carson won the title in grand fashion, as he also led all 25-laps to win his third main event of the season. Hammes thanked his family in victory lane. “I want to first thank my mom for all of her support,” said Hammes. “In the shop it’s just my dad and my brother and me working on these two cars most of the time. It feels great to win the track championship.” Carson congratulated his brother on a good season also. Dawson won two main events and probably would have been closer to his brother if not for some mechanical gremlins late in the season. Dryver Dothage finished sixth in the main event, but it was good enough to secure the third spot in points. Chasing Hammes to the checkered flag were Jake Haulot and Cody Gray. William Fielding ran a strong fourth. Carson Hall charged into fifth place. A total of 20 cars attended the final point show of 2024.
The IMCA Sport Mod main event was very eventful between the two championship contenders. However, that didn’t bother Jace Wright. He led all 20 laps and won the race. Wright was impressive all night. The two championship contenders were Raymond Lindeman and Mark Garner. Both drivers started in the fourth row. On lap two Lindeman was collected in a wreck. He came to stop in turn four. Under the yellow he went to the work area and returned to the track. At this point, Garner was far enough ahead, that if the race ended then, he would be the champion. Yet, just two laps later, Garner was caught up in a wreck. He continued but was sent back. Hence, Lindeman was back in control of the championship. With six laps to go, both Lindeman and Garner were once again caught up in a wreck. They both continued to fight for the championship. Neither were able to do much in the final four laps. Lindeman finished sixth, good to win the championship, while Garner was credited with eighth. “It was a crazy main event,” said Lindeman. “This was a long season as we jumped out to an early point lead then Mark started to reel us in near the end, so I give him credit for making it close. There was point this season when I wanted to give up but with some advice from Jerry Bartlett, I decided not to give up and finish it out.” KC Carpenter finished a solid second. Jimmy Ford had some body panel damage but was able to salvage third place on the track and third place in the points. Hunter Merritt and Mike Merritt rounded out the top five.
Tonight, could be considered a test and tune for the Nor Cal Dwarf cars. This upcoming Friday and Saturday is their big Nationals show at Marysville. A nice turnout of 19 cars put on a great show. The heat races and main events were flawless with great racing and action-packed passing. In the end, Shawn Whitney was just too good. Starting in the fourth row, Whitney charged to the lead by lap four. Whitney went on to lead the final 16 laps with ease and win the race. Dylan Shrum shadowed Whitney most of the race and finished second. Gage Meyers continued to impress and finished third. Kinser Endicott ran in the top five all night and finished fourth. Mike Grenert was on a mission tonight. He was inside the top five until lap 11 when he got turned around and fell back to 14th according to the race monitor. He then put his elbows up and charged to a fifth-place finish. Excitement is an understatement as we all look forward to the upcoming Friday and Saturday night dwarf car races.
