Big Turning Point in the Season
Marysville, CA – (5-17-22) …This Saturday night, May 21st, could be the most important championship point race of the season for the winged 360 sprint cars. The reason being, this Saturday will serve as the final track point race for the winged 360 sprint cars until July 1st. That equals a six week break for the winged 360 sprint cars. Mind you, there is a show on May 29th featuring the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, but the track does not recognize points for that night. There is also an event scheduled for June 18th but does not list winged 360 sprints on that night. This Saturday night will loom large to separate the contenders from the pretenders.
Joining the winged 360 sprint cars this Saturday night are the Hobby Stocks and Lightning Sprints. A full field of stars and cars are expected to entertain the crowd. Last week, the show was the best of the year, and these drivers will hopefully follow suit.
Bobby Butler leads a tough cast of characters into racing this Saturday night. Butler continues to hold onto the point lead in the winged 360 sprint car division. During the six events that have been completed, Butler has amassed 240 total points. Chasing him in second is Korey Lovell. The five-time track champion, Lovell, has 225 total points. Rookie Carson Hall sits third with 222 total points. Michael Wasina and Kevin Lovell round out the top five. Butler and Wasina are the only two in the top five with one main event victory.
The Hobby Stocks will compete for the fifth time this season. Howard Law continues to dominate the division with three wins and an 18-point edge over the second-place driver Kyle Cheney. The most intriguing battle is between Cheney and the two drivers closely behind him. Maurice Merrill sits third and is only three markers behind Cheney. One-point behind Merrill is Zach Lindgren. Second through the fourth spot is separated by just four-points. Joe Gillock sits comfortably in the fifth spot.
The BCRA Lightning Sprints make their one and only appearance of the season at Marysville Raceway this Saturday night. Led by current point leader Matt Land of Elk Grove, this competitive series features close racing and open wheel thunder. Citrus Heights front runner Hunter Kinney sits in the second spot just nine-point back.
