Fast Cars and Freedom This Saturday at Marysville Raceway
(Marysville, CA) 6/28/2016…Marysville Raceway is excited to host Fast Cars and Freedom on Saturday night July 2nd. Fans will be treated to fast cars on the famed quarter-mile clay oval speedway throughout the night; however, once the final checkered flag is waived, the sky will light up with a gigantic aerial firework display. It’s going to be a night of fireworks on and off the track.
Adult general admission is $15.00, juniors are $13.00 and kids 11 and under are FREE. Front grandstand gate opens at 5 PM. Pit gate for the competitors opens at 3 PM. Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM. Patriotic themed music will be played all night. We are also planning an autograph session with each divisions top drivers.
Four popular racing divisions will be on hand led by the winged 360 sprint cars. Joining the event are the wingless sprints, IMCA Sport mods and Super Stocks.
Rio Linda’s Cody Lamar is closing in on Jeremy Burt for the track championship. Burt now holds a seven-point edge over Lamar. This battle will continue to develop as the season unfolds. Sparks, NV driver Mike Monahan, Yuba City’s Korey Lovell and Marysville’s Cortney Dozier will all be in the hunt for the win. Except the possibility of some surprise drivers this weekend.
The Cooper brothers continue to dominate the IMCA Sport Mods season. Brian Cooper won for the second time last Saturday, while brother Todd, has three wins. Phillip Shelby has been the only other driver to dethrone the Coopers. Last week Jimmy Ford was the hard charger and hopes to be back in victory lane soon. Willie Horn Jr. has shown flashes of brilliance and one of these nights will park his car in victory lane.
Josh Vieira is the current point leader of the wingless sprints. With his steady finishes, Vieira will be tough to beat in the end. Two-time and defending track champion Timmy Sherman Jr. is still searching for his first win on the year. Sherman trails Vieira by just five points. Peter Paulson has two wins but a recent DNF has sidelined his championship point lead. Paulson is now seven points back. Track favorite Misty Castleberry will be sporting her Red, White and Blue #95 this weekend and would electrify the crowd if she could get the win. Other top competitors will include Johnny Burns, Bret Youngman, Korey Combs and Joey Olschowka.
Cortney Dozier leads the Super Stock charge. Dozier holds a five-point edge over Phillip Shelby. James Castleberry and Mike Walko add enthusiasm to this popular division.
