Golden State 8 Kicks off This Saturday

CHICO, CA (9-3-15) – The fastest eight consecutive days of sprint car and midget dirt track auto racing will begin this Saturday, September 5th, and conclude the following Saturday, September 12th, at the Gold Cup Race of Champions in Chico. Dirt track racing enthusiasts will be treated to five different and diverse venues featuring some of the best drivers in the nation.

The five tracks involved in this eight day marathon include Marysville Raceway, Calistoga Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, Cycleland Speedway in Oroville and Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.

Tickets for each event can be purchased the day of the race or by calling each individual track office phone number and trying to reserve seats. Attached is a list of phone numbers and websites corresponding to each track.

The approximant symmetry of the tracks is another enticing element for the fans. Only three hours separate the five facilities.

Over the course of the eight consecutive nights of racings the fans will be treated to a diverse mix of drivers including NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Larson racing outlaw go-karts at Cycleland. Drivers from nearly 25 different states will partake in at least one race somewhere along the Golden State 8 trail. One of the biggest attractions for grass roots racing fans is the accessibility of interacting with the drivers and teams after the races. With so many different names and faces competing in the Golden State 8 it will give fans the unique chance to see and meet a ton of varied drivers in such a condensed eight day stretch.

The Golden State 8 kicks off at Marysville Raceway for point’s race number 15 featuring 360 winged sprints and four other divisions. This night is also a fund raiser for the Placer Breast Cancer Foundation. Starting on the same night and continuing over the Labor Day weekend is the 8th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga Speedway. Most fans can agree that Calistoga Speedway is one of the most beautiful places to watch sprint car and midget racing. The historic Calistoga ½ mile speedway is located at the Napa County Fairgrounds. The Amsoil CRA/USAC non wing sprint cars and the Honda USAC Western Midgets will each race both nights during the 8th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic. “Non- wing sprint cars and midgets at Calistoga Speedway is as traditional as it gets for our sport,” said Thomas. Each night will feature qualifying, heat races and main events.

The following night, September 7th, Petaluma Speedway will host a special Monday night Amsoil CRA/USAC sprit car event. The facility is located about 40 minutes from Calistoga. The dark, heavy 3/8 mile dirt track produces high speeds and close racing.

Tuesday night, September 8th, outlaw kart racing returns to the 1/8 mile Cycleland Speedway in Oroville. Kyle Larson’s Outlaw Kart Showcase presented by ParkerStore, will feature over 150 drivers vying for the highest-paying event in the history of Outlaw Kart racing. Larson, who not only is promoting the event, will be racing. Joining Larson during this event will be all the regular Cycleland stars and special guests to be named later.
On the following night, and just eight miles up the road from Cycleland, Silver Dollar Speedway will host the 62nd Anniversary of the Gold Cup Race of Champions. This four day party kicks off Wednesday night, September 9th, with the 360 winged Civil War sprint cars and the non-wing Hunt Magneto sprint series. Thursday night, the Amsoil CRA/USAC sprints and B.C.R.A./Honda USAC Western Midgets will co-headline the evening. It will mark the only appearance of the year for the USAC sprint cars at Chico. Then on Friday and Saturday night, the greatest show on dirt, the World of Outlaws return for two consecutive nights of tight knit racing on the high banked, ¼ mile clay oval speedway. After the races on Friday night, fans can experience the world famous Miss Gold Cup 2015 Bikini Contest and Chili Feed.
