Robinson, Hopkins and Youngman Earn Hard Fought Wins
(Marysville, CA 2/29/20) … Ryan Robinson bested a 14-car field of winged 360 sprint cars to get the popular win during Saturday nights Sherm and Loree Toller Memorial at Marysville Raceway. Robinson led all 25-laps to capture his second win of 2020. In fact, he has won two of the three races he has entered in 2020. Robinson’s win was solidified when he held of Andy Forsberg during a late race restart. Forsberg railed the outside in turns one and two to pull even with Robinson. The two battled side by side until getting back to turn one, when Robinson shut the door on Forsberg going into turn one. It was a veteran move, and the winning decision by Robinson. Rising NASCAR star Jesse Love impressed the crowd tonight with a solid third place finish. Look for this 15-year to continue to great things behind the wheel of a race car. 2019 track champion Michael Ing finished fourth. Billy Wallace rounded out the top five.
Forsberg turned the fastest lap in qualifying and earned bonus money. He went on to win the first heat race. Robinson dominated heat race number two. The Toller family requested that Forsberg also do the memorial lap in honor of Sherm and Loree.
Shane Hopkins led the Brian Sperry No.51 to a dominant win during the 20-lap wingless spec sprint car main event. Hopkins led wire-to-wire. This is a potent combination that has the potential to win a lot of races in 2020. The best battle on the raceway involved Shayna Sylvia-Ensign, Josh Young and Matt Streeter. These three drivers put on a great show. In the end, Young was able to secure the second spot. Streeter finished third. Sylvia-Ensign came home fourth. Dennis Furia Jr. rounded out the top five. Sylvia-Ensign won the lone eight-lap heat race.
Brett Youngman survived a wild Crate Sprint main event to win the 12-lap race. On the opening lap Mike Ballentine and Cameron Haney Jr. crashed in turn one. Haney Jr. continued but ultimately had to pull off after his top wing came apart. Youngman held off David Simms to win the race. Haney Jr. won the lone heat race.
Championship Point Racing begins on March 21 with winged 360 sprints, IMCA Pepsi Sport Mods and Hobby Stocks.
