Stock Cars Invade Marysville
(Marysville, CA 10/12/24) Once a year Marysville Raceway dedicates a late season event to California dirt stock car racing. Called the Taxicab challenge, it features five divisions of stock cars tackling the ¼ mile clay oval located just off Simpson Lane in Marysville. The 80 cars expected will bring the raceway to life Saturday October 19, 2024.
The Xtreme Late Model series will headline the show. They also had a race scheduled in March that fell victim to rain, so this will be their only appearance for 2024. Pro stocks, which are a melting pot for area track super and street stocks are on the schedule along with the Placerville Speedway Pure stocks. Added for the second time are IMCA stock cars. IMCA stock cars have recently appeared on the Northern California scene but differ from the IMCA Sport Modifieds the track runs weekly. IMCA sport modifieds will not be part of the show.
After a year long battle that resulted in 9 feature wins and a tie in the Championship standings local Hobby Stock drivers Kyle Cheney and Howard Law will headline the largest group of cars. Hobby stocks have been part of the regular lineup at the speedway for ten years. Cheney got the Championship crown based on his 6 feature wins over Law at 3. Both drivers had almost identical records each also winning 5 heat races. 40 hobby stocks turned out for last years event. Riders are allowed in the hobby stocks a unique draw for the class.
Marysville Raceway is located just off Simpson Lane next to the Marysville Flea Market in the Yuba River flood plain. The ¼ mile clay oval has operated for more the 60 years at this location. Over time it has had numerous configurations and operators. Improvements over the last decade have made the facility rival any California oval track operation and draws a large contingent of racers and fans.
The pit gate will open at 3 P.M. on Oct. 19. The front gate and grandstand will open at 5 P.M. Racing is planned for 6:30. Tickets will be sold at the gate or may be obtained online through the track website at www.marysvilleraceway.com. Online tickets are discounted. Adult tickets at the gate will be $17, Junior and seniors are $15, kids are $8. Under 5 are free. Local retailers also offer a free kid’s ticket when accompanied by an adult.
