Wide Open Wednesday
Wide Open Wednesday
(Marysville, CA 7/27/20)…High speed auto racing returns to the Marysville Raceway on Wednesday July 29th. Wide Open Wednesday will feature four divisions led by the winged 360 sprints, Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, and Limited Late Models.
Once again, the Raceway has been given permission to allow the first 100 fans into the main grandstands on this night. The front gate will open at 6 PM. Once the 100-person quota has been filled, the Raceway will stop allowing more fans in.
Thanks to the generous support from our on-line streaming partner, FloRacing, the Wide-Open Wednesday race will offer a full purse once again to the competitors. Please visit www.FloRacing.com for more details on how to order this event. This streaming service is the best way to catch the action while not being able to get to the track in person.
The winged 360 sprint cars are led by Auburn’s Andy Forsberg as he holds a 51-point edge over Chico’s Michael Ing. Chico’s Brad Bumgarner is closing in on Ing for the second spot. Those two are only separated by 14-points. The hottest driver at Marysville must be Tanner Carrick of Lincoln. Carrick won the 25-lap this past Wednesday, giving him two wins in a row, and should be considered the favorite to beat this Wednesday. Younger brother Blake is primed to score his first win at Marysville. Blake is fresh off a win at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
The always entertaining IMCA Sport Mods will hit the track for the fifth time in 2020. Jimmy Ford is the new leader in points. With a solid finishing record, Ford is four points ahead of Timothy Allerdings. Something to make note of, none of the top five drivers in the points have been to victory lane yet. Will that change this Wednesday? You will have to be there or watch it on FloRacing to find out.
One of the true surprises this season has been the emergence of the Limit Late Models. This group offers a close-knit racing family and provides some great on track racing. Dan Brown Jr. leads the charge with 148 total points and two wins. Auburns Ray Trimble picked up the most recent win and sits tied with Rod Oliver for second. Both drivers are 13-points behind Brown.
The Hustling Hobby Stocks return for their fifth point show of 2020. Jesse Van Roekel sits atop the mountain with 184 total points and one win this year. Zach Lindgren is seven points back in second. Lindgren is also a winner this season. Jim Brookshire holds down the third spot, just one point back of Lindgren. David Caluya sits fourth and Jacob Johnson is fifth.
Pit gate for the competitors will open at the normal time, 3 PM. The grandstands will not open until 6 and most likely be closed by 6:30. No in and out privileges will be allowed as the gates will be closed to all but exiting spectators. Social distancing will be required, and fans should have a face mask. Adult tickets are $17, Junior and Senior $14 and kids $6.
